Northeast Florida high school Athlete of the Week poll: Jan. 30

Fleming Island's Gianna Gardner is the Florida Times-Union's 22nd Northeast Florida Athlete of the Week for the 2022-23 high school sports season, covering the week of Jan. 16-21.

The senior striker helped Golden Eagles girls soccer to a perfect final week with five goals and an assist as they defeated Stanton 2-0, Fletcher 3-0 and St. Johns Classical Academy 8-0.

She placed first in a vote of top performers that included Aubrianna Apple (Clay girls wrestling), Toby Matson (Fletcher boys wrestling), Akindele May-Parker (Oakleaf boys soccer), Beza Miller (Episcopal boys basketball) and Cami Robinson (Nease girls basketball).

This week's vote

It's time to vote for Florida Times-Union's Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 23-28, 2022.

The Times-Union gathers nominees from scores, stats and nominations e-mailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across Northeast Florida. Coaches can e-mail these stats and scores to preps@jacksonville.com.

This week's voting begins Monday morning and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.

Here are the nominees for Jan. 23-28:

Adrianna Barrientos, Oakleaf girls wrestling

The junior earned first place in the 105-pound division at the Lady Rams Tournament of Champions in Lake Mary, winning all four of her contested matches by fall.

Annalise Cannada, Bolles girls soccer

The senior midfielder scored seven goals in the District 3-3A tournament, four in a 10-0 shutout of Jackson and three in a 4-0 win against Wolfson, advancing the Bulldogs to next week's final.

Ryan Chacon, Nease boys soccer

The junior forward scored two goals and an assist in the opening-round 8-0 victory over First Coast in the District 3-6A tournament.

Roberto Cuartero, Bishop Kenny boys wrestling

The senior won all four of his matches by fall to complete a perfect week with victory in the 152-pound division of the Flagler Rotary Tournament in Palm Coast.

Paetyn Miller, Ridgeview girls basketball

The senior guard finished with 42 points, 11 assists and nine steals as the Panthers finished the regular season with three wins over Columbia, Fletcher and Raines.

George Woods, Ribault boys basketball

The senior guard scored a team-high 13 points in the overtime final against Jackson, leading the Trojans to their first Gateway Conference championship since 2017.
