Northeast Florida high school football, volleyball, cross country Power Polls after Week 5

FOOTBALL POWER POLL

The Times-Union highlights the top teams across high school football for teams in Jacksonville and Northeast Florida after Week 5 of the 2022 FHSAA season. All schedules are subject to change based on Hurricane Ian.

1. Trinity Christian

Record: 5-0, District 1-1M

Previous: 1.

Last week: Won 43-30 vs. Columbia.

This week: at Christ's Church, 7 p.m. Friday.

Notable: Whether it's the Treyaun Webb-Darnell Rogers combination on the ground or Colin Hurley and Miles Burris through the air, Conquerors are tough to stop.

2. Bartram Trail

Record: 5-0, District 3-4S

Previous: 2.

Last week: Won 59-37 vs. St. Augustine.

This week: vs. Fleming Island, 7 p.m. Friday.

Notable: Bears show they can win both shootouts and defensive struggles ahead of Fleming Island clash.

3. Jackson

Record: 4-1, District 1-2M

Previous: 3.

Last week: Off.

This week: vs. Ribault, 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Notable: Tigers had a week to rest up for Northside district showdown.

Week 5 football rewind: White, BK, Englewood, Palatka among winners

4 (tie). University Christian

Record: 5-0, District 1-1M

Last week: Won 49-13 at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee (Ga.).

This week: at Providence, Tuesday.

Notable: On offense, defense and special teams, the big play count just keeps climbing for UC senior Orel Gray.

Record: 4-1, District 3-2M

Previous: 5.

Last week: Won 34-0 vs. Riverside.

This week: at Madison County, 7 p.m. Friday.

Notable: With no points allowed in nine quarters, Commanders are bidding to become first Duval public school to beat Madison County since Raines in '97 title year.

6 (tie). Bishop Kenny

Record: 5-0, District 2-2M

Previous: 6 (tie).

Last week: Won 35-0 at West Nassau.

This week: at Wolfson, 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Notable: Crusaders are knocking on the door of a 6-0 start.

6 (tie). Fleming Island

Record: 3-1, District 3-4S

Previous: 8.

Last week: Off.

This week: at Bartram Trail, 7 p.m. Friday.

Notable: Stiff challenge awaits Golden Eagles in return from bye week.

8. Creekside

Record: 4-1, District 3-4S

Previous: Not ranked.

Last week: Won 37-27 at Mandarin.

This week: at Oakleaf, 7 p.m. Friday.

Notable: Knights showed they can win even when ground game isn't rolling.

Notable: Vikings renew rivalry against Riverside on Saturday afternoon.

10. Bradford

Last week: Won 21-7 vs. Quincy Munroe.

Notable: One stat tells the story for the Tornadoes: Four games, seven points allowed.

VOLLEYBALL POWER RANKINGS

The Times-Union rolls out its fourth high school volleyball poll of the 2022-23 FHSAA season. Records are through matches played Monday night. All schedules are subject to change based on Hurricane Ian.

1. Ponte Vedra

Record: 8-3, 5A

Previous: 1.

Last week: Win vs. Providence (3-0).

This week: Oct. 4 vs. Middleburg.

Notable: Zeta Washington starred again with 20 kills against a strong Providence squad.

2. Trinity Christian

Record: 15-3, 3A

Previous: 2.

Last week: Wins at Bartram Trail (3-1), at Yulee (3-0), vs. Middleburg (3-1).

This week: Thursday at Harvest Community, Monday at Fleming Island.

Notable: Amaria King, Ali Haney and Avery Haney all hit double-figure kills in impressive win at Bartram Trail.

3. Bishop Kenny

Record: 10-3, 4A

Previous: 3.

Last week: Win vs. Nease (3-1); loss at Ridgeview (3-2).

This week: Wednesday at Fleming Island, Oct. 4 vs. Episcopal.

Notable: Ally Cavanaugh's 16 kills, Olivia Ryno's 14 not quite enough for BK in epic battle with Ridgeview.

4. Bartram Trail

Record: 12-7, 7A

Previous: 4.

Last week: Wins vs. Episcopal (2-0), Jupiter (2-0), Ridgeview (2-0); losses vs. Trinity Christian (3-1), Jupiter (2-0), Middleburg (3-2).

This week: Monday at Tocoi Creek, Oct. 4 vs. Oakleaf.

Notable: A busy six-match week wrapped up for the Bears, with huge kill totals for Jenna Otts and Lilly DeLamielleure.

5. Beachside

Record: 12-1, 4A

Previous: 5.

Last week: Wins at Matanzas (3-2), vs. Atlantic Coast (3-0).

This week: Wednesday at Mandarin, Thursday at Nease, Monday vs. Sandalwood, Oct. 4 vs. Orange Park.

Notable: Megan Gundlach's 24-dig, 18-kill night against Matanzas led another superb Barracuda week.
