Northeast Florida high school track and field state qualifiers: Class 3A

The 2022 Florida High School Athletic Association track and field championships begin Wednesday at James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track on the campus on the University of Florida. The FHSAA is spreading track competition across four days: Class 1A teams on Wednesday, Class 2A on Thursday, Class 3A on Friday and Class 4A on Saturday. Hundreds of athletes from across Jacksonville and Northeast Florida are scheduled to participate. Last spring, Bolles won the 2021 girls team championship held at the University of North Florida, and multiple Northeast Florida athletes captured individual titles.

Outlook: Coming off a Region 1-3A championship, Raines is in the hunt, although they'll have to overcome numerous South Florida powers to finish on top of these standings. Senior Harrison Robinson, in the 110 hurdles, and versatile jumper Reshawn Latimer are the Vikings' top title threats. Latimer will encounter another area star in top seed Seth Stockton of Columbia in the triple jump, which also includes Orange Park hoops sensation Josiah Sabino. The numbers look promising for third-place region finisher Ponte Vedra as well, which will field top-five seeds Henry Gainer in the javelin, Nathan Lebowitz in the discus and Layne Swafford in the shot put. Junior shot putter Wyatt Underwood is one to watch for Middleburg as well.

CLASS 3A GIRLS

1 p.m. Friday

High jump: Samantha Mitchell, Orange Park; Zoe Whaley, Ridgeview. Triple jump: Maliyah Deas, Fleming Island; Olivia Gaines, Ridgeview. Shot put: Mychalea Parker, Orange Park; Joy Akingbola, Ke'Leijah Hector (both Riverside). Discus: Madison Underwood, Middleburg; Temia Hardeman, Ribault; Joy Akingbola, Riverside. Javelin: Caroline Hughes, Ponte Vedra. 100: Kayla Cleveland, Parker. 200: Kayla Cleveland, Parker. 400: Thania Barton, St. Augustine. 800: Katie Thompson, Fleming Island; Lindy White, Ponte Vedra; Blythe Duchene, Ridgeview. 1,600: Olivia Kemp, Menendez; Lindy White, Ponte Vedra; Reilly Barber, St. Augustine. 3,200: Olivia Kemp, Menendez; Sofia Bushkell, Ellie Moritz (both Ponte Vedra); Rylan Holmquist, St. Augustine. 100 hurdles: Amelia Coker, Ponte Vedra. 300 hurdles: Amelia Coker, Ponte Vedra. 3,200 relay: Fleming Island, Ponte Vedra, St. Augustine.

Outlook: The road to victory runs through South Florida powers like Miami Northwestern and Miami Southridge, and overcoming them will be no easy feat. Nonetheless, the Northeast Florida teams, particularly Region 1-3A champion Ponte Vedra, are in the mix to accumulate some solid points, particularly the Sharks' Amelia Coker in the hurdles and Lindy White in the distance events. Parker junior Kayla Cleveland is always a challenger in the sprints, and Ridgeview's Olivia Gaines (high jump) and Riverside's Joy Akingbola (discus) both hold top-five seeds in their events.
