Northeast Florida welcomes first firearms detection K9 as Duval County school police inducts Maveric

Northeast Florida witnessed a momentous occasion on Wednesday as K9 Maverick, a Belgian Malinois, was officially sworn in as the first-ever K9 officer of the Duval County School Police.

With a unique skill set in firearms detection, Maverick’s induction ceremony marked a significant milestone for the region.

Maverick’s achievement was recognized during the special ceremony held at 3:30 PM on May 31, where he took his oath of service in front of his fellow officers.

This Belgian Malinois has become the newest member of the force and earned the distinction of being the first certified firearms-detecting K9 in Northeast Florida, having recently completed his National Police Canine Association K9 Firearms Detection Certification on May 25.

The Duval County Public School District expressed their excitement at welcoming Maverick to the team. His primary responsibilities will include conducting random searches, investigating threats, and assisting in various events throughout the district. With his exceptional skills and training, Maverick is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of the school community.

In addition to his impressive credentials, Maverick also boasts a unique taste in food. His favorite delicacy is salmon, adding a touch of charm to his already impressive profile.
