Northeast Louisiana schools dismissing early ahead of potential severe weather Tuesday night

The Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness advised state residents Monday to prepare themselves as a "potentially dangerous weather" is expected to move into Tuesday.

According to the NWS, tornadoes, very large hail and severe damaging wind gusts are expected to hit northeastern Louisiana. A few of these tornadoes will be strong and intense Tuesday afternoon into the overnight hours.

In anticipation of the inclement weather, local school districts and colleges are announcing early dismissals for Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Schools dismissing early as of Tuesday morning include:

  • Ouachita Parish Schools - 1:30 p.m.

  • Monroe City Schools - 1:45 p.m.

  • Morehouse Parish Schools - 11:45 a.m.

  • East Carroll Parish Schools - noon

  • Tensas Parish Schools - 12:30 p.m.

  • West Carroll Schools - 2 p.m.

  • Richland Parish Schools - 1 p.m.

  • Franklin Parish Schools - 12:30 p.m.

  • Louisiana Delta Community Colleges - noon

  • All Northwestern State University campuses closed at noon  All classes and events will be canceled or postponed.

  • The University of Louisiana Monroe campus -1:45 p.m. The Hub and bookstore closed at 1:30 p.m.
