Northeast Piedmont Chorale to perform Sunday at McGregor Hall

Apr. 19—HENDERSON — The Northeast Piedmont Chorale will present two free concerts this weekend in Raleigh and Henderson.

"What a Wonderment" is the theme for the Spring 2023 concerts taking place on Friday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church on 4301 Louisburg Road in Raleigh and Sunday, April 23, at 3 p.m. at McGregor Hall Performing Arts Center on 201 Breckenridge Street in Henderson.

The 75-member Chorale is led by Cindy Edwards of Henderson. A nine-member orchestra will accompany the singers, including Wayne Kinton of Henderson, David Kinton of Durham, and Robert Hopper of Henderson. The group is accompanied on piano by Kristen Allred of Raleigh.

In addition to the masterwork "Te Deum" by Dan Forrest, the program will feature familiar classics such as "City of Stars" from the movie "La La Land" and a mesmerizing version of the lullaby "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"; a sea chanty, "Sea Fever"; a spiritual, "Wade in the Water"; and a powerful rendition of "The Impossible Dream" from the Broadway production of "Man of La Mancha," in addition to another half dozen selections. Two of the songs, "Alleluia for Our Time" and "City of Stars," are arrangements by Raleigh composer Jay Althouse.

"These concerts explore the wonderment of the creation, from earth and sea to sun and sky," said Judy Miller of Youngsville, the president of the Northeast Piedmont Chorale Board of Directors. "We celebrate the seas, rejoice in the sunlight, and sing the songs of the stars. We always strive to present a variety of musical selections that will enlighten and entertain concert goers, and this Spring's program promises to be among our very best."

The Chorale is a non-profit, non-sectarian, volunteer organization whose mission is to perform final choral music for the residents of the Northeast Piedmont area at no charge. Members of the Chorale come from Wake, Durham, Vance and Franklin counties.

The Chorale is constantly looking to expand. All who are interested in singing with the Chorale can find membership information at www.npchorale.org. Rehearsals are held each Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Wake Forest Baptist Church at 107 E. South Avenue in Wake Forest.
