Northeast Side bar Rosie O'Grady's closes

The Northeast Side bar and nightclub Rosie O'Grady's, at 2411 Morse Rd., has closed after more than 30 years in business.

An employee of the bar and grill announced the closure on Facebook. She told The Dispatch that the membership buying service DirectBuy is buying the property, and plans to demolish the building.

The bar was known as a lively dance club with karaoke, DJs, and classic bar fare, particularly its wings. Though the bar has landed on the crime pages over the years, former patrons expressed bittersweet responses to the announcement.

"Another place I've made memories since my 20s is gone," read one post.

"Lots of memories good and bad," read another.

The bar, formerly known as King Tut's, opened in 1991, eight years before Easton Town Center shifted Morse Road activity to the east.

Other longtime Columbus bars to close this year include Dahlia and BBR in the Arena District, the Shrunken Head in Victoria Village, Pub Mahone Downtown, Two Truths in the Short North, Bogey Inn Bar & Grill in Dublin and Leipzig Haus, which closed after 53 years in Berwick.

A public on-site auction for items remaining in the Rosie O'Grady's building is set for Sept. 11 at 1 p.m.
