HARBOR SPRINGS — This winter, people can swap out their favorite holiday movies to turn on a reminder of something a little closer to home — Harbor Springs’ downtown streets.

Downtown Harbor Springs will be live streamed by the Hallmark Channel’s Christmas Cam each day from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. until Dec. 30.

The camera, which sits on the corner of Main Street and South Spring Street, shows off Main Street and the Christmas tree in front of the Holy Childhood of Jesus Church.

Bonnie Kulp, executive director of the Harbor Springs Chamber of Commerce, said someone reached out to the chamber in October to see if they were interested in having Harbor Springs showcased. After checking with the city to see if they’d be interested, they moved forward with the application.

Now, the city is one of just five being showcased throughout the country. Enchant in St. Petersburg, Florida; St. Paul, Minnesota; Corning, New York; and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania are the other cities be streamed this December.

Kulp said some people weren’t surprised by the selection, telling her, “We all know Harbor Springs is the quintessential Hallmark town,” she said.

“We're only one of five cities, but those of us who know and love Harpor Springs — we do understand,” Kulp said. "It makes perfect sense that we've been selected for this.”

Kulp said she heard concerns from some people in town that want to keep the city a secret to keep it a quiet, small, community-driven place. Even with the publicity, she said she doesn’t think anything will change.

“I think that Harbor Springs is Harbor Springs and will forever be a small community that is all about the community,” Kulp said.
