Northern State University signs teach-out agreement with Presentation College

Northern State University signed a teach-out agreement with Presentation College on Tuesday that will help students complete their degrees at Northern, as Presentation College is set to close by the end of this academic year.

NSU had been working toward such an academic agreement with PC for some time, according to a press release from the university, and just received approval from the Higher Learning Commission to move forward with it. The agreement applies to students in all majors at PC except for nursing and radiologic technology.

Other teach-out agreements are in place with Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, Dickinson State University in Dickinson, North Dakota, St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota and Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan.

NSU will accept coursework from PC for current students and students who have stopped out since 2013, as well as provide academic advising to help students complete their major programs and identify minors, certificates and learning opportunities for professional development.

Northern will also assist Presentation students with orientation, housing, and invitations to student clubs and activities while connecting students with support from the Student Success Center, Career Services, Native American Circle Program, Multicultural Student Affairs, Tutoring, Counseling, and Accessibility Services.

“Northern has always valued the mission of the Presentation Sisters and College and their significant role in the community and region,” NSU President Neal Schnoor said in a news release. “Northern is working with the college to support students in any way possible during this difficult time of transition.”

Current PC students and those who have stopped out of college can visit NSU at a teach-out fair in Lantern Hall on PC’s campus from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, and Tuesday, Jan. 31.

“We’re so pleased to be partnering with Northern State University with this agreement,” PC President Paula Langteau said in a press release. “We know that having the ability to continue to take courses right here in Aberdeen will be a huge benefit for many of our students, and we’re grateful for the opportunity.”
