Northern State uses 2 kick returns for TDs to down Minot; Presentation tops Dakota State

Northern State University picked up its first road win Saturday, downing Minot State 28-10 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference college football action in Minot, North Dakota.

Before Saturday, the Wolves, now 4-3, had won all of their home games and lost all of their away games.

Quarterback Will Madler tossed three touchdown passes to lead the offense. He connected with Greg Lux from 10 yards out in the first quarter and again from 20 yards out in the third quarter, the latter making it 28-3.

The Wolves also had two kick returns for touchdowns. Luke Gunderson took the second-half kickoff to the end zone to make it 21-3. And with 6:43 left in the game, Payton Hughes added a punt return.

On defense, Northern had another strong day, finishing with eight sacks. The Wolves held the Beavers to three of 14 on third-down conversion attempts and turned away two drives inside the Northern 20. Ian Marshall set the Northern single-game record with four sacks. Brennan Kutterer and Charlie Larson each finished with nine tackles.

Minot is now 0-7 in the season.

Next up for the Wolves is a home game Saturday against Concordia-St. Paul. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Dacotah Bank Stadium.

Three interceptions lead Presentation College past Dakota State

Presentation College defenders intercepted three passes as the Saints picked up a 21-19 North Star Athletic Association victory over Dakota State Saturday in Madison.

Dakota State outgained Presentation in total offense by 200 yards, but the turnovers were too much to overcome. In the closing minute, the Saints defense stopped a fourth-and-four play from the Presentation 27-yard line to take over the ball and seal the win.

Quarterback Kaeden Frazier finished with 154 passing yards and a touchdown for Presentation. Cameron Sheppard had three catches for 80 yards. Kevin Wright added five catches for 50 yards and a touchdown.

The Saints are now 2-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Dakota State is 3-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Presentation next hosts Iowa Wesleyan Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brownell Activities Complex.
