The wait was well worth it for the Northridge and Concord softball teams.
The pair both posted easy semifinal wins Friday night in the Class 4A Warsaw Sectional.
The semifinal games had been postponed due to rain both Wednesday and Thursday nights.
Defending champion Northridge blanked Elkhart 10-0 and Concord bested Warsaw 18-2 in a pair of five inning games.
Northridge (19-9) faces Concord (15-12) Saturday at Warsaw at 11 a.m. in the sectional final. The Raiders beat Concord 3-0 and 8-3 in NLC games during the regular season.
The Warsaw Sectional winner will host Penn Tuesday night in a one-game regional. Penn beat Riley 10-0 in five innings Friday night in the title game of the Mishawaka Sectional. Penn beat Northridge in a regional game in 2021.
Abby Hostetler fired a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts to lead Northridge. The Raiders had just six hits, but took advantage of six walks by Elkhart pitchers and four errors by the Lions.
Concord piled up 19 hits to down Warsaw. They scored seven runs in the second innings, highlighted by a three-run homer by Cassi Reames.
Evy Pitt had four hits and Karenna Ulfig four RBI to lead the Concord offense.
Lynnsey Delio earned the pitching win as she struck out nine for Concord in the circle.
There is plenty of softball sectional action on tap Saturday.
Jimtown will play host Wawasee for a Class 3A sectional title in Syracuse at 11 a.m. Glenn faces Kankakee Valley at 10 a.m. at Kankakee Valley and Elkhart Christian Academy plays host Fremont at 12:30 p.m.
Also on Saturday, Argos plays Culver at 9 a.m. with the winner facing South Central in the title game at 1 p.m. at LaCrosse. At Westview, Fairfield plays Westview at 10 a.m., followed by Bremen versus Prairie Heights. The sectional final at Westview is at 7 p.m. Saturday.
