Northwest Local school district adds staff

Northwest Local Board of Education

Tuesday meeting

KEY ACTION: Approved a number of resignations, appointments and assignments, along with supplemental contracts.

DISCUSSION: Among the resignations was Troy Lindeman as a first grade teacher at Northwest Primary. Lindeman was then hired as a Title I tutor at W.S. Stinson. Other resignations included Rachel Barkan, remedial math and reading tutor at Saints Philip and James Catholic School; Shauna Martin, Title I tutor at the middle school; and Mary McKendry as school counselor at W.S. Stinson Elementary School. New employees include Bethany Sissman and Shannon Murphy, both first grade teachers; Alicia Eberly and Arron Roberts, both Title I tutors at the middle school; and MaKenzi Carrick, guidance counselor at W.S. Stinson.

A total of 65 supplemental contracts for extra- and co-curricular activities as well as for lead teachers, mentors, technology heads, and athletic coaches were approved. Superintendent Shawn Braman was appointed to serve as an unpaid member of the Local Professional Development Committee. The committee ensures that teachers have met state certification and licensure requirements and that goals and strategies are relevant to the needs of those involved in a student’s education. Most supplemental contracts are paid positions.

OTHER ACTION:

  • Approved a leave of absence for high school history teacher Jayson Gillson, effective Jan. 4, 2022.

  • Opted out of providing a career technical education for middle school students for the current school year.

  • Received information on changes to several school board policies, including school property disposal, staff conduct, support staff vacations and holidays, career advising, student dress code, and public conduct on district property. The board will vote on the changes at its next regular meeting.

UP NEXT: Will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 in the media room at the high school. Board meetings are recorded and may be viewed the following day on the district’s website or Facebook page.
