Northwest Missouri sweeps Emporia State basketball

EMPORIA (KSNT) – Emporia State basketball finally played on its home court after four-straight road games. However, it didn’t have a positive welcome home.

Northwest Missouri State swept Emporia State. The women lost, 86-52. The men fell, 64-61.

Men’s recap:

The two teams opened the game trading buckets, but the Hornets were able to garb a seven-point lead seven minutes in. Northwest Missouri answered with an 8-0 run, taking the lead away from ESU.

The two traded the lead one more time. Then, the Bearcats outscored Emporia State, 10-2, to take a 10-point lead into the half.

Northwest Missouri grew its lead to 14 in the second half. However, ESU outscored the Bearcats by ten through almost six minutes to make it a two-point game with 1:38 left.

Neither team scored in the final 1:38 besides the Bearcats’ lone free throw, resulting in the 64-61 loss.

Women’s recap:

The Lady Hornets were on a much-steeper roller coaster.

Emporia State grabbed a four-point lead about six minutes in. However, Northwest Missouri took the lead back and led by two into the second quarter.

The Bearcats outscored ESU 12-3 to start the second quarter, and it only grew its lead from there. Northwest beat the Lady Hornets, 86-52.

Next, both teams host Missouri Western State on Saturday.
