Byrd, Haughton, Evangel, Loyola among Shreveport-area football winners

Byrd’s Desmond Simmons rushed for four TDs in leading the Jackets to a 58-0 win over Southwood on Friday night at Independence Stadium.

Simmons, a sophomore fullback, scored on runs of 2, 3, 7 and 65 yards to be the first Byrd running back since William Berry in 2020 to have four rushing scores. Southwood (0-9, 0-6 District 1-5A) was unable to prevent Byrd’s first shutout on the road since 2020, also against Southwood.

Lake Lambert scored twice, while Dixon Poirier and Christian Jones scored once each for the Jackets (6-3, 3-3). Hunter Thrasher intercepted two passes and forced a fumble for Byrd.

Haughton 56, Natchitoches Central 20: The Bucs (5-4, 3-3) got back on the winning track against NCHS (3-6, 2-4). Colin Rains ran for two TDs and hit John Ecot for two more scores, while Tyler Rhodes ran in two TDs.

Evangel 21, Huntington 14: The Eagles (5-3, 4-2) were able to outlast the Raiders (5-4, 4-2) in the District 1-4A contest. Garrett Burns carried the load with more than 100 rushing yards. Parker Fulghum and Jamaal Jordan scored for ECA. John Solomon and Kenton Brossette scored for the Raiders.

Ruston 47, Ouachita 13: The Bearcats (8-1, 4-0 District 2-5A) had little trouble with the Lions (4-5, 2-2). Dyson Fields made his return rushed for 105 yards and two TDS while Jadon Mayfield also contributed two scores. Jordan Hayes rushed for 126 yards and a TD.

Arcadia 54, Magnolia Charter 0: The Hornets (6-3, 2-3) got the easy win versus Magnolia (1-8, 1-4) as Rodtravious Jackson tossed two TD passes to GeAuntre Nelson, and Markecion Carr rushed for two scores.

Loyola 42, North Caddo 22: The Flyers (5-3, 3-0) took charge in District 1-2A with the win over the Titans (6-3, 4-2). Cooper DeFatta had a hand in five touchdowns (3 rushing, 2 passing). J’Quay Vinson, Omarion Miller and KJ Black scored for the Titans.

D’Arbonne Woods 28, Green Oaks 14: The Giants (2-7, 0-4) couldn’t get the District 1-2A win against the Timberwolves (6-3, 2-2). The Giants lost despite a Tovoras Lee to Amarion Dorsey TD pass and a 6-yard TD run from Delarrious Marshall.

Jonesboro-Hodge 28, Lakeview 7: The Tigers (3-6, 1-3) got back on the winning track against the Gators (4-5, 1-3). Jason Blackburn scored two rushing TDs for the Tigers, while LSU commit Xavier Atkins scored on a pass from Dakota Knox and had an interception return for a touchdown. Dillon Pikes scored on a 37-yard run for the Gators..

Winnfield 41, Mansfield 28: The Tigers (7-2, 3-1) piled up the points against the Wolverines (2-7, 2-2). Malachi Jackson contributed four touchdowns (3 rushing, 1 passing) for Winnfield while Trey Starks scored two rushing TDs.

Thursday games

Haynesville 64, Ringgold 0: Haynesville (8-1, 4-1) recorded a homecoming shutout of Ringgold (1-8, 1-4). Toby Franklin rushed for 101 yards and scored three touchdowns. Alonzo Jackson Jr., Jayden Green, Zykerius Fielding and Yasin Meadors scored once each and Dakota Davis recorded a pick-6.

Northwood 21, Woodlawn 0: The Falcons kept pace with North DeSoto in the District 1-5A race Thursday with a shutout of Woodlawn. The Falcons (7-2, 5-1) got three TD passes from Mason Welch, who hit Desmond Harris for two of the scores. Quintavious White scored two rushing TDs against the Knights (3-6, 2-4), while Revelation Gay returned a kickoff for a TD.

Benton 22, Captain Shreve 21: Benton (6-3, 5-1) outlasted the Gators (4-5, 1-5) to stay alive in the District 1-5A race. Jeff King threw TD passes to Andy Lim and Pearce Russell, while Greg Manning scored on a 5-yard run. Kenyon Terrell tossed one TD pass to Keaton Flowers for the Gators, while adding a rushing touchdown along with Jamarrion Otis.

Minden 43, BTW 26: Minden running back Daylen Robinson became the first back-to-back 1,000-yard rusher at Minden since Sammy Seamster from 1985-87. He also became the No. 3 all-time rusher in school history behind Seamster and Raymond Tate.

North DeSoto 56, Bossier 16: The Griffins (9-0, 6-0) clinched at least a share of the District 1-4A title with a win over Bossier (0-9, 0-6). Luke Delafield tossed four TD passes with Sam Odom catching two of them. Also scoring for the Griffins were Cole Cory, Landon Falls, John Lewis, Drake Wadsworth, Tristan Hopper and Kenny Thomas.

Many 42, Red River 0: The LSWA Class 2A top-ranked Tigers (8-0, 4-0) recorded their second consecutive shutout with a win over the Bulldogs (3-6, 2-2). Jamarlyn Garner scored four TDs for the Tigers and Mason Leach had a receiving TD. Tylen Singleton added a pick-6.

Beekman Charter 46, Plain Dealing 12: Plain Dealing (0-9) came up short against Beekman Charter Tigers (6-3). Eli James and Aaron Reddix scored for the Lions.

Glenbrook 21, Homer 14: Glenbrook (9-0, 6-0) clinched its first LHSAA district championship with the win over Homer (6-3, 4-1). Glenbrook had to go with the ground attack with Maddox Mandino scoring two TDs and Ty Feaster taking the quarterback option on another. Gregory Williams and Andrevious Buggs scored for the Pelicans.

Calvary 63, Lakeside 0: The Cavaliers (7-2, 4-0) shut out Lakeside (4-5, 0-4) in Jerry Barker Stadium. James Simon rushed four times for 73 yards and three TDs while Jay Simon caught two TD passes. Aubrey Hermes and Owen Smith both scored for the Cavs.

St. Mary’s 24, Logansport 8: St. Mary's (7-1, 3-0) locked up at least a share of the District 3-1A title with the win over Logansport (6-3, 2-1). Joe Metoyer and Drake Griffin each had a rushing touchdown for St. Mary's, while Adam Parker connected with Mixon Bankston on a 15-yard touchdown pass. Steven Holloway scored the lone touchdown for Logansport.

North Webster 41, Bastrop 22: The Knights (1-8, 1-5) won their first game of the season by topping Bastrop (1-8, 0-5). Collin McKenzie threw TD passes to Xander Thomason and Jakobe Lawson. Cooper Chase, Jakobe Lawson and Brandon Robertson all had rushing touchdowns and Jalon Thomas had a fumble return for a score.
