Northwoods League: Loggers end the Stingers' streak

Aug. 4—LA CROSSE, Wis. — The winning streak's over.

Willmar lost for the first time in 13 games, falling 7-6 to the La Crosse Loggers on Wednesday night.

The loss ends a 12-game Willmar winning streak.

The Stingers remain in first place in the Great Plains West Division second-half standings at 20-4. They are 41-17 overall. La Crosse is now 12-12 in the Great Plains East"s second-half standings and are 28-30 overall.

Some 2,719 fans at Copeland Park saw the Loggers take a 7-3 lead after five innings, then hang on for the victory.

Jordan Donahue wnt 2-for-5 with two runs and three stolen bases to lead La Crosse.

For Willmar, Graysen Tarlow went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. The catcher from Cal State-Northbridge has begun his Northwoods League career by batting .429 (6 of 14) with four runs and six RBIs.

Will Safford and Zac Corbin also had good games for the Stingers. Safford went 2-for-4 with a double, a hit-by-pitch, a stolen base and a run batting in the lead-off spot. Zac Corbin was 2-for-3 with a walk, a sacrifice fly, two stolen bases and two RBIs.

Willmar returns home to play the Mankato MoonDogs at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at Bill Taunton Stadium.
