Northwoods League: St. Cloud shells Stingers

Jun. 20—WILLMAR — The St. Cloud Rox took the first game of its home-and-home series with the Willmar Stingers.

St. Cloud opened the Northwoods League doubleheader with an 11-4 win in front of 600 fans for a Father's Day game Sunday at Bill Taunton Stadium.

The Rox got a big lift from the power bat of Charlie Condon. A 6-foot-6, 215-pound redshirt freshman from the University of Georgia, Condon hit two home runs: a three-run shot in the first and a two-run homer in the fifth. He finished 2-for-5 with six RBIs.

John Nett and Trevor Austin both had three hits for the Rox. Along with Condon, Camden Hayslip and Dawson Martin each tallied two hits as St. Cloud finished with 15 in the game.

Willmar's Zac Corbin also came up with a homer. After a leadoff single by Drey Dirksen in the bottom of the second, Corbin, a redshirt freshman from Kennesaw State, drove the ball to right-center for his first homer of the season.

Joey Walls, JT Navyac and Scott Anderson each were 2-for-3 in the loss.

St. Cloud starter Johnny Dow got his first win of the year after tossing the first six innings. Reed Smith got hit with the loss after five innings of work for Willmar.

The Rox and Stingers meet again at 7:05 p.m. Monday at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud. The Stingers return home at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday to face the Mankato MoonDogs.
