Northwoods League: Willmar Stingers run roughshod on La Crosse
Aug. 10—LA CROSSE, Wis. — After back-to-back losses, the Willmar Stingers made an emphatic return to the win column on Tuesday night.
In front of 2,504 fans at Copeland Park, each Willmar player got a hit in a 20-3 Northwoods League victory over the La Crosse Loggers.
Through two innings, the Stingers led 12-1. They finished the game with 18 hits compared to six for the host Loggers.
Leading the Willmar hit parade was leadoff batter Will Hodo. The University of Alabama freshman was 4-for-6 with two runs and two RBIs.
Jordan Sagedahl, a sophomore from South Dakota State and a BOLD High School grad, hit a grand slam in the seventh inning. It was Sagedahl's fourth home run in nine games with the Stingers. He finished 2-for-4 with six RBIs, three runs and three walks.
Joey Walls, Graysen Tarlow, Scott Anderson and Kole Krier also had two hits each for Willmar. Krier, a redshirt freshman from St. Cloud State by way of Maple Grove, belted a two-run homer in the top of the third.
Logan Samuels got his second victory of the season after pitching the first 5-1/3 innings. The University of Montevallo sophomore struck out 10 while giving up one run on two hits and two walks. He has a 2.84 ERA this summer.
Sitting at 24-6 in the second half, the Stingers begin a two-game series with the Bismarck Larks at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Bill Taunton Stadium in Willmar.
