Nov. 29—NORWALK — Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced on Monday the recipients for the 2022 School Safety Grant Program.

Norwalk Catholic was one of 708 schools awarded out of more than 2,000 applications. The $100,000 award will be used to upgrade the public address system on the main campus at 93 E. Main St. in Norwalk. The school's proposal was selected, in part, to address a vulnerability assessment completed in collaboration with Norwalk Police Department and from feedback from staff safety trainings and active shooter simulation debriefs earlier this year.

In 2022, the school prioritized enhancing and improving safety across the three school campuses: St. Paul High School, Norwalk Catholic Elementary, and Norwalk Catholic Early Childhood. This has led to writing a number of grant applications to fund safety initiatives.

Below is a list of items to improve the safety and preparedness at Norwalk Catholic in the 2022-23 school year:

—$100,000 grant to upgrade the public address system on our main campus

—$20,000 from the Norwalk Catholic Giving Day in September

— Threat Extinguishers

— Window tinting to limit visibility into classrooms and common areas

—Training for staff on ways to respond in the event of an active shooter

—Fisher Titus Medical Center trauma kits for all classrooms and office spaces
