Norwalk soccer teams win at Columbian

Sep. 22—TIFFIN — The Norwalk boys soccer team maintained its spot atop the SBC Lake Division standings with Wednesday's 15-0 rout over host Columbian in Tiffin.

It marked the second straight 15-0 win for the Truckers, who improved to 7-2-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the league.

Omar Dominguez netted a hat trick with three goals to pace the scoring for the Truckers, who also got two goals and four assists from Cameron Shoop. Braedyn Demuth and Erik Rangle-Negrete each had two goals.

Scoring once for the Truckers included Ben Snyder, Devyn Emmons, Landon Ferkel, Mason Gamble, Noah Kluding and Spencer Colahan.

Gamble had three assists and Colahan had two. Drew Thomas, Jonathan Perez and Rangle-Negrete each had one assists, while Jose Negrete made one save at goalkeeper.

Norwalk is back in league action at 5 p.m. Monday at Clyde.

GIRLS SOCCER

Norwalk 2, Columbian 1

TIFFIN — The Truckers improved to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in the SBC Lake Division with Wednesday's win over the host Tornadoes.

Taryn Temple scored on an unassisted goal in the first half, then Abby Koenig scored the second goal in the second half off a pass from Joscey Thomas.

Lilly Farmer finished with four saves in goal for the Truckers, who host Vermilion at 11 a.m. Saturday in a non-league match.

Edison 3, Vermilion 2

VERMILION — The Chargers improved to 7-2 overall with Wednesday's road win over the host Sailors.

Edison got a pair of goals in the first half from Amelia Chartrant and Abby Hearing. Assists were credited to Julie Wigrube and Chartrant.

In the second half, Hearing scored what proved to be the game-winning goal. Brianna Marcy made five saves for Edison, which hosts Mapleton on Monday.

GIRLS GOLF

SMCC 200, St. Paul 220

NORWALK — St. Paul fell to visiting St. Mary Central Catholic on Wednesday in non-league action at Eagle Creek.

For the Flyers, Hannah Wheeler shot a 40, followed by Sam Gocsik with a 55 and Zoe Roth with a 56. The lineup was rounded out by Chloe Smith (59), Lizzie Belden (61) and Zoey Hay (62).

JUNIOR HIGH

Norwalk splits at Columbian

TIFFIN — The Norwalk Middle School volleyball program came away with split on Wednesday at Tiffin Columbian.

The seventh-grade team won in three, 25-17, 21-25 and 25-13.

Ainslee King was 18 for 19 serving and was 22 for 24 hitting, while Maddie Gamble was 10 for 11 serving with 18 digs. Kenadee Lesch was 9 for 10 serving, while Piper Richardson was 10 for 12 serving.

The eighth-grade team lost in two to the Tornadoes, 25-14 and 25-19.

Norwalk will host Clyde on Monday in another SBC Lake Division match.
