NORWELL – Neil Simon's Tony-winning romantic comedy "Barefoot in the Park" is the next show to be performed by North River Theater.

Simon wrote ‘‘Barefoot in the Park," which hilariously confronts the challenges of love and marriage, in 1963. It starred Robert Redford and Elizabeth Ashley and ran for four years on Broadway. It was nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Play. Mike Nichols picked up the award for Best Direction. Jane Fonda would join Redford for a movie version in 1967.

The play tells the story about a pair of newlyweds navigating the first days of marriage. The couple move into a tiny, fifth floor, walk-up apartment in Manhattan and contend with a lack of heat, leaking skylight, interfering mother and eccentric next door neighbor.

Audiences liked the contrast between Paul, the sensible but stilted lawyer, and Corie, the free-spirited young housewife. She wants to go ‘‘barefoot in the park’’ in the middle of winter. He does not.

The talented cast for this production includes: Eva Olivia Catanzariti as Corie Bratter, Chris Cartier as Paul Bratter, Jen Serowick as Mrs. Ethel Banks, David Giagrando as Victor Velasco, John Mahoney as the Telephone Man and Stephen Bradford Doherty as Delivery Man.
