Norwin area: Halloween events, comedy show, more

Oct. 14—Trick or treat set in Irwin, North Huntingdon

Irwin Borough will hold its Halloween parade from 3 to 4 p.m. Oct. 23 along Main Street.

The trick-or-treat for residents in Irwin, North Irwin and North Huntingdon will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Halloween party slated in Irwin

The Irwin Halloween Costume Par-tay for adults age 21 and older will feature food, music provided by AJ Entertainment and karaoke singing from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Masonic Hall, 415 Main St., Irwin.

The event is BYOB. Tickets are $12 per person plus fees through Eventbrite, or $15 per person at the door.

Ticket holders will get a meal of hot dogs, potato chips, soft drinks, water and homemade dessert. There will be several contests with cash prizes.

For an additional charge, attendees may have use of a photo booth, special effects creepy makeover and a raffle

Program on ambulance service slated

Andrew Blenko of North Huntingdon, a former township planning director, will present "The First Responders, The Story of Freedom House Ambulance Service" at 6 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Norwin Public Library, Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

The Freedom House Ambulance Service, founded in 1967, was the first emergency medical service in the United States to be staffed by paramedics with medical training beyond basic first aid, Blenko said.

Dr. Peter Safar at the University of Pittsburgh worked with Freedom House Enterprises to train Black men and women from Pittsburgh's Hill District as paramedics to deliver emergency medical care.

Norwin alumni group offers deal

The Norwin Alumni Association is offering a deal on lifetime membership at half the regular price from now through Dec. 31.

Lifetime membership will be $50 through the remainder of the year, then the fee will return to $100.

Those who become lifetime members of alumni association before the end of the year will automatically be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Alumni association members get a 50% discount on Norwin-sponsored activities including athletics, concerts and musicals. Members also are eligible to receive member-to-member discounts offered through the Norwin Chamber of Commerce at many local businesses.

Pet Friends to host comedy show

Pet Friends of Irwin will host a comedy show fundraiser at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 for the opening of the new Elements event venue in Banco Business Park, Commerce Drive, North Huntingdon.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased on Pet Friends website, www.petfriendsinc.com.

There will be a gift basket auction and a raffle ticket.

Salsa Sam of Irwin and Quinn Brewing Co. of North Huntingdon will be on site with food and drinks available for purchase.
