Norwood 150 Announces May Community Events

NORWOOD, MA - Norwood 150, the committee that organizes events to celebrate the year of Norwood's 150th anniversary, announced a series of upcoming events to learn about and beautify the community.

On Saturday, the Norwood Evening Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale at Hawes Pool Park at 1269 Washington St. from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information, contact webmaster@norwoodeveninggardenclub.com.

On Tuesday, May 17, from 7-8:30 p.m., the Norwood Historical Society will present a book discussion event on Patricia Fanning’s "Influenza and Inequality." This will be an on-line event. Learn more or register at info@norwoodhistoricalsociety.org.

This history of Norwood’s response to the 1918-1920 flu pandemic is especially enlightening given our experiences with the Covid-19 pandemic. What have we learned from history? Join us for this online discussion as we learn from history and find ways to chart a better path forward today.

On Saturday, May 21, the Friends of Visual Arts of Norwood will host a community art-making event specifically on yard art at the Norwood Civic Center from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Yard art is described as decorations to display in one's yard and windows as well as on the front porch and doors. This event is an opportunity to find out more about yard art, brainstorm ideas, pick up supplies, or make something for your yard art display.

The first 25 groups to arrive will receive free yard art kits. For more information, contact fovaart4u@gmail.com.

You can attend this event to learn how to add curb appeal to your own property or specifically to get ideas to enter your own yard in Norwood’s Yard Art competition, to be held June 11 and 12.
