Not-Fat Bear Spotted Swimming Across Alaska's Glacier Bay, Then Climbing Rock Formation

As Fat Bear Week got under way, an athletic brown bear disinterested in the celebration was spotted swimming across Glacier Bay at Alaska’s Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, then scampering up a rock formation.

The nature preserve posted the National Park Service footage of the bear paddling across the bay on October 1. At points in the video, the bear looks over its shoulder directly at the camera.

“A brown bear swimming in flat ocean water, then landing and running up a smooth rocky outcropping, eventually climbing a hill covered in yellow-autumn vegetation,” the post said.

The post reminded viewers to vote for their favorite fat bear during Fat Bear Week, which continues through October 6. Although clearly this bear would not be in the running! Credit: Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve via Storyful
