Not quite back to normal: Here’s what you can and can’t do in Miami this weekend
We regret to inform you that Miami-Dade County is not quite back to its usual self.
Bars still aren’t open, and restaurants remain at half-capacity under Phase 2 COVID-19 rules.
But we’re not complaining. There are no hurricanes lurking in the Atlantic at the moment, and that’s good enough for us.
Movie theaters are open at half-capacity, too. Still too nervous to see a film with random people you don’t know? You can rent an entire theater at the Silverspot Cinema in Miami for $99 through the end of the month.
Just remember Miami-Dade County’s nightly 11 p.m. curfew remains, and masks are still mandatory in Miami-Dade County.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Brazilian Film Festival: Most film festivals have gone totally virtual, but the 24th annual Brazilian Film Festival kicks off at 6 p.m. Sept. 26 with a drive-in screening of “Abe” by director Fernando Grostein Andrade at Dezerland Park. From there, the festival continues virtually through Oct. 25. For schedule information and tickets, visit www.inff.online.
Boat-in movies: At the Floating Cinema from Ballyhoo Media, you can watch a film by boat (or at a socially distant table on nearby land). The film series starts Sept. 26 with “Jaws” and runs through Oct. 31.
RESTAURANTS
Restaurants reopened for limited-capacity indoor dining, plus outdoor dining, takeout or delivery. Some restaurants have closed temporarily during the COVID-19 outbreak, while others have closed for good.
Still only up for takeout? No problem. Miami Herald food editor Carlos Frias has some suggestions.
BARS
Miami-Dade bars remain closed unless they have a food license (unlike other counties, which are allowed open at 50 percent capacity). If Miami-Dade bars do have a license, they can only operate at limited capacity and must abide by the Miami-Dade County curfew.
Bars are now open in the Florida Keys.
NIGHTCLUBS
Nightclubs are still closed under county rules.
BEACHES
County beaches are open.
MOVIE THEATERS
Movie theaters are open, but you can’t eat popcorn or Junior Mints at your seat. Theaters are required to set up designated eating and drinking areas. Also, keep your mask on in the theater. Check Fandango for local listings.
