Notable drop in temperatures forecast for Phoenix metro as weekend nears

After enduring a sweltering summer, Phoenix residents will experience a notable drop in temperatures as the weekend approaches, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Isaac Smith.

The Weather Service reported dry and clear conditions were on tap for metro Phoenix on Thursday and the rest of the week, with a similar forecast expected heading into the weekend.

"Highs in Phoenix will be in the mid-80s, with a high of 84 for Thursday," Smith said. Thursday's low was expected to be 63 degrees according to the five-day forecast. Smith added, "We'll start cooling off as we head into Sunday and then going into early next week."

Overnight lows were expected to be in the low-60s, which will then drop into the mid-to-upper 50s come Saturday night, Smith said. Saturday's high was expected to be 84 degrees with a low of 57 degrees.

Temperatures next week will be cooling slightly below normal with widespread low temperatures in the 40s and 50s, according to the National Weather Service's most recent weather outlook.

According to Smith, Sunday will have the greatest cool-off, with a temperature high forecast at 81 degrees and a low that evening of 57 degrees, the coolest night of the week. He went on to say this condition will persist into the following week as Monday stays on trend with an expected high of 81 degrees.

"We'll have mostly clear and sunny skies and a few passing clouds," Smith added. The weather service stated these are normal conditions for this time of year with no record temperatures expected. Record high temperatures typically appear in the mid-to upper-90s for late October.
