Notes from the Dover American Legion Post 205

• The revitalized Dover American Legion Post 205, is meeting on the first Monday of every month at 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall.

• A scholarship fund has been established in the memory of the late Jesse “Jack” Reese. The winners of this year’s Jesse “Jack” Reese Memorial Scholarships were announced May 3 at the Dover High School Auditorium. They are Julia Weaver, Katelyn Nitz, Grace Williams and Isabella Barr.

• Post members will be distributing Poppies at the Dover Buehler’s May 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Donations raised will be used for the Jack Reese Memorial Scholarship Fund and community projects.

• The Memorial Day Ceremony, with Dover American Legion Post 205 Commander Kevin Thomas serving as Master of Ceremonies, will be held Monday May 30 at the Maple Grove Cemetery, beginning at 10 a.m. The guest speaker will be Ron Crabtree, Commander of the New Philadelphia American Legion Post 139. Other participants will be students from the Dover eighth grade. Grant Mathias will be reciting “The Gettysburg Address” and Laney Gottshall will recite “Flanders Fields.” The Dover High School Band and the Dover High School Choir will also be preforming. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at Memorial Hall.

• It was reported that the Color Guard, which will be marching at the Canal Days Parade, which will be presenting the colors and acting as the Honor Guard at the Memorial Day Ceremony. Post 205 is looking for new members to join the ranks, and to help us serve the community and keep the Post active. For more information call Keith Thomas at 330-343-5847.
