Notes from the newsroom: New comics lineup to brighten your days

The funny thing about humor is what tickles one person's funny bone can leave another cold. And what was once deemed funny or irreverent can land flat today, as cultures and tastes evolve over time.

It's as true for television sitcoms as it is for newspaper comics.

We've been surveying and listening to our loyal subscribers and have decided to refresh our comics with a refined slate of 'toons that incorporates both your beloved favorites along with some newer-to-you offerings to brighten your day.

Be assured: We're not pulling back on our humorous offerings. The comics count in The Desert Sun will be roughly the same during the week and slightly higher on Sunday.

You'll find Garfield, The Family Circus and Crabgrass in the same places you always have: On the daily comics page in print and in our e-edition. Joining these classics will be Marmaduke, Ziggy and Crankshaft, among many others. On Sunday, For Better or for Worse, Baby Blues and Pickles join the party, too, along with others.

The new comics pages will debut on Oct. 2. Here's the full lineup you can look forward to with your Desert Sun subscription:

  • Monday through Saturday: Blondie, Zits, Beetle Bailey, Family Circus, Hagar, Dennis the Menace, Garfield, Peanuts, For Better or Worse, Baby Blues, Pickles, Pearls Before Swine, Jump Start, Ziggy, Marmaduke, Non Sequitur, Crabgrass, Crankshaft, Luann, Baldo, Frank & Ernest, Born Loser.

  • Sunday: Blondie, Zits, Beetle Bailey, Family Circus, Hagar, Dennis the Menace, Garfield, Peanuts, For Better or Worse, Baby Blues, Pickles, Foxtrot, Pearls Before Swine, Jump Start, Ziggy, Marmaduke, Non Sequitur, Crabgrass.

If after a week you are still wanting more, I encourage you to check out desertsun.com/comics for an even bigger assortment of funnies. Thanks for reading.
