New Nothing Bundt Cakes location to bring “10,000 Bites of Joy” to Columbus this month

Columbus residents will soon be able to eat and gift cakes that have holes in them when a bakery specializing in bundt cakes opens in late August.

Franchisee Missy Moon is opening Nothing Bundt Cakes in Columbus Park Crossing at 5555 Whittlesey. The bakery will be located next door to Moe’s Southwest Grill in front of the AMC Classic theater.

The franchise was founded by Dena Tripp and Debbie Shwetz in 1997 and specializes in handcrafted bundt cakes along with retail items that includes party supplies, decor and gifts.

“We truly want to be the one stop shop for all occasions, events and holidays,” Moon said.

The cakes come in a variety of flavors, she said, and the bakery uses cream cheese frosting. Customers can expect to see seasonal and pop up bundt cake flavors as well.

“The cake already speaks for itself,” Moon said. “It’s just so moist, so delicious.”

A grand opening is tentatively set for August 25, she said, but this date could change. Ahead of the opening, Nothing Bundt Cakes will be out in the community handing out “10,000 Bites of Joy,” Moon said.

During the opening, there will be discounts and giveaways, including a few people who might win a year’s worth of bundt cakes.

“It’s a great brand,” Moon said. “It brings happiness and joy to all of our clients.”

Choosing Columbus

Moon has lived in Georgia almost her entire life after her family immigrated from South Korea in the early 1990’s, she said. The businesswoman worked as the director of operations and director of marketing for other restaurants, including Five Guys and Newk’s Eatery, for over 20 years.

In 2020, a friend introduced Moon to the Nothing Bundt Cakes franchise, and she became one of thousands of candidates looking to become a franchisee. She opened her first location in Newnan in 2021 and a second location in East Point last year.

When Moon decided to expand and open a third bakery, she researched Columbus because of comments from guests at her other locations.

“Every single day, we must have a handful of guests asking when we are going to open a bakery in Columbus,” Moon said.

One of the determining factors on choosing Columbus as a location was the opportunity for community involvement, she said.

“We do a lot of pop-ups around the community to support mainly schools, churches and nonprofit organizations,” Moon said. “We are very big on sponsorships and fundraising where we support schools through selling our cakes.”
