Notion of Bengals WR A.J. Green joining Ravens in free agency pops up again
Could Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green be a hot commodity on the free-agent market this offseason?
We’ve already noted one set of projections that sees him signing with the Kansas City Chiefs. Another suggested he’d stick in the AFC North and sign with the Baltimore Ravens.
That Ravens idea seems to be a popular one among experts.
ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, for example, noted Green could be the type of player the Ravens want to target:
One of the Ravens’ biggest needs is adding to a wide receiver group that ranked last in the NFL in catches (137) and receiving yards (1,729). The expectation is Baltimore won’t pursue a No. 1 wide receiver like Allen Robinson or Kenny Golladay. Signing one or two wide receivers from the second tier (perhaps Corey Davis, Sammy Watkins or A.J. Green) would boost the Ravens’ passing game at a lesser cost. Bryant said he won’t be returning, and Snead isn’t likely to get re-signed.
Green spent the majority of his career dominating the Ravens, so it would be especially strange for him to land there, of all places in the AFC North.
Still, that prospect these days wouldn’t frighten the Bengals so much as it would simply be disappointing. Green is a franchise great who struggled to make an impact last year after finally staying healthy, and it’s clear the team is moving on to rely on Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd.
Unless a bad market pushes Green back to the Bengals on a cheap deal, it sure seems like Baltimore is one of the places that make the most sense.
