Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman offers injury update before USC showdown

USC is wondering if it will have a full-strength (or close to full-strength) version of Eric Gentry available on Saturday against Notre Dame. The Trojans got healthy enough against UCLA to beat the Bruins. Jordan Addison, Andrew Vorhees, and Bobby Haskins all regained enough strength and sharpness to be major difference-makers in that game.

Now, as the focus shifts to the Irish, USC could really use Gentry’s disruptive defense and his ability to help plug gaps in both run support and pass defense against tight end Michael Mayer, the Irish’s best downfield pass-catching weapon.

While we wait to see — Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles — if Gentry can give USC a meaningful amount of snaps, we also have to wonder what Notre Dame can bring to the table.

The Irish are relatively healthy, but a few key pieces are uncertain.

Focus on the name Tobias Merriweather, via this story from our friends at Fighting Irish Wire:

Cam Hart will probably be questionable for this one. He had a shoulder injury that he had previously, but he had a shoulder injury. Isaiah Foskey is probable. Mitch Evans I would say is probable with the ankle sprain. Probable for Jayson Ademilola, probable for Brandon Joseph, still questionable for Tobias Merriweather. Still trying to see his recovery of the concussion.” -Marcus Freeman on Nov. 21, 2022
