Have a need for a new lava lamp, novelty pots shaped like strawberries or skulls, black lights, or bachelor and bachelorette party favors? Spencer’s Gifts is ready to amuse.

The shop famous for body jewelry, graphic tees and the latest fad merchandise opened a new location at the Outlets of Des Moines.

Spencer’s takes over Space 210, a 2,595-square-foot store filled with trendy gifts and novelties, including licensed merchandise from movies, television and music. Look for gag items, "Over the Hill" products and glow-in-the-dark novelties.

The company got its start in 1947 as a mail-order catalog in Pennsylvania, then opened its first brick-and-mortar store in 1963. It now has 680 retail locations, in addition to an online presence.

Spencer’s also has a location at Jordan Creek Town Center, 101 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines.

What's new at the Outlets of Des Moines?

Spencer’s Gifts joins two other newcomers, Cole Haan and Merrell, now open at shopping mall in Altoona. In the past year, the Outlets of Des Moines also brought locally owned Bizzy’s Boutique, and national brands J.Crew Factory, Puma, Rue21, Nautica, Windsor, Forever 21, Aéropostale, and Victoria’s Secret on board.
