Is there a November election in Wisconsin in 2023?

Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023, is Election Day, leaving many Wisconsinites wondering whether there's anything on the ballot today in our state.

The answer is no, there are no elections and nothing to vote on in Wisconsin today.

However, according to Ballotpedia, more than half of the states in the union do have elections today. Here's what to know.

When is Election Day?

In the United States, Election Day occurs annually on "the Tuesday ... after the first Monday in November," U.S. law states. This means Election Day occurs on the Tuesday falling between Nov. 2 and Nov. 8.

Everything from local elections to the Presidential Election occur on Election Day, though not every type of election occurs every year. Elections for federal offices (like the president, vice president and Congress) only occur in even-numbered years. As do most gubernatorial elections, except in Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Jersey and Virginia.

This year, Election Day falls on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023.

Which states have November elections in 2023?

More than half of U.S. states, though not Wisconsin, have something on the ballot today.

Kentucky and Mississippi have gubernatorial elections today, and Pennsylvania and Virginia have state legislature races.

In Ohio, voters will decide on one of the only ballot measures involving abortion this year. If approved, Issue 1 would change the Ohio Constitution to add abortion protections.

When is Wisconsin's next election?

The next statewide election in Wisconsin is the 2024 local spring primary election on Feb. 20, 2024. That's followed by the spring general election and presidential primary on April 2.
