November programming in full swing at the Crawford County Art Center

Crawford County Art Center started its November programming Saturday with Falling Leaves Snow Globes craft shop and Acorn Necklaces and Felt Acorns workshop.

The organizer of both events was the art instructor at Crawford County Art Center, Rebecca Adler, and she came up with a lot of programming for November.

The idea behind the Falling Leaves Snow Globes workshop, Adler said, was to make globes out of jars filled with autumn leaves, sticks, soap and water, and glitter. The simple components turn a simple jar into a mystical piece of a fairytale.

Adler said she comes up with a lot of crafty ideas, including for her Sunday Creation Station that offers new craft every Sunday, looking through Pinterest. One of her previous ideas was making a candy corn art on a piece of wood.

Participants said Falling Leaves Snow Globes did not leave them disappointed.

Abbie Otto said she came because of her friend, Destiny Bloomfield, and while she herself does not think she is artistically inclined, she still had a good time crafting a snow globe.

Bloomfield said she, unlike Otto, is subscribed to all community art programs in the area and puts them all on her calendar, trying to make as many as she can. She said she decided to invite Otto for the snow globes craft because she knew Otto likes snow globes.

“I’m trying to get her to know that every art is good art,” Bloomfield said.

Devon Wilson said he followed his fiancée and her friend to the craft event. He said he had done other arts and crafts events before, but this particular one struck him as easy to do.

November programming in full swing

Falling Leaves Snow Globes, Acorn Necklaces and Felt Acorns marked the start of November Crawford County Art Center programming.

Adler said they will be followed by paper turkey crafts for children on Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., led by Trevor McCarthy. She said usually around 10 kids gather for the program, but some programs, such as the rock painting program receive around 40 children.

Adler’s Creation Station on Sunday will be centered on engaging visitors in working with various natural materials, such as pine cones, orange peels and cinnamon to learn to express emotions through the feelings associated with particular types of natural materials.

“Like pine cones are grounding, and cinnamon is for warmth,” Adler said.

On Monday, 6-9 p.m., the center will introduce its Open Studio, which will be held a few times a month. The next one will be Nov. 27.

Open Studio is designed as a space for the artists to work on their projects together in the inspiring environment of a co-working studio shared with other artists, Adler said.

On Tuesday, 7-9 p.m., visitors will get a chance to create winter art journals under the guidance of Beverly Morgan. Adler said it would be an opportunity to create “a gorgeous piece of art out of normal stuff. It’s kind of like a scrapbook, but better."

Sunday, Nov. 19, Creation Station will be focused on working with pinecones, getting some ombre coloring on them. The participants will later be able to take pines home to decorate their houses and remember doing something that was fun, said Adler.

The Crawford County Art Center will be dedicated to the opening of the winter local art exhibit at Thanksgiving, for which the center has announced the call for artists.

“We are going to be doing a gallery change, and everything’s going to be winter themed,” said Adler.

On Sunday, Nov. 26, the center will feature Acorn Lanterns and Garden Doors workshops and on Thursday, Nov. 30, a Burnt Sienna class with Glenn McMurrey and Alena Fox on pastry arts will be held.
