Now is the best time to book a cruise. Here’s why

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Wave season is here, but what does that mean? AAA says its the best time of the year to book a cruise. Let’s break it down.

From January to March is when cruise lines typically run their best deals of the year, also known as wave season.

The Automobile Club of Southern California (AAA) says smaller ships, solo trips, and splurge-worthy suites are some of the biggest trends for 2024.

AAA says top travel destinations this year include the Arctic Circle, Antarctica, the Galápagos, and the Northwest Passage.

San Diego ranked third safest spring break destination

“Cookie-cutter trips are a thing of the past. Today, travelers are looking for one-of-a-kind experiences,” Jena Miller, the Auto Club’s vice president for travel products and services, stated in a release. “We’re seeing an increase in expedition cruises, solo cruise passengers, and sold-out balcony cabins and suites. All of that tells us travelers are willing to be adventurous and spend more to have an unforgettable cruise vacation.”

San Diego offers a variety of cruises to choose from that depart from the cruise ship terminals along the Embarcadero:

Just this week, the 2024 world cruise set sail from San Diego beginning its five-month journey through 30 countries before returning to San Diego on June 24.
