Now-former Shawnee police officer, his wife arrested on felony charges for arson

SHAWNEE, Okla. (KFOR) – A now-former Shawnee police officer finds himself on the opposite side of the law. He was arrested Thursday on several felony charges, along with his wife.

The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office say they’ve been working on this case for about five months after the Shawnee Police Department asked them to investigate one of their officers, Jacob Blazer. He and his wife, Taylor Blazer, were both arrested on Thursday morning.

“An arrest warrant was issued. He was taken into custody this morning as well as his wife, Taylor, for charges of arson against their own house… We’ve been working on it for about five months with the Sheriff’s Office and the DA’s task force here working together on this case,” said Travis Dinwiddie, undersheriff Pott. County Sheriff’s Office.

Jacob Blazer and his wife, Taylor Blazer, were both arrested for False Reporting of a Crime to Law Enforcement, Arson in the Second Degree, Endangering Human Life During Commission of Arson, and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony.

The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office says it is under investigation and there will likely be more information available tomorrow.

The Shawnee Police Department sent the following:

On July 13, 2023, Jacob Blazer was placed on administrative leave. All of his police powers were removed, and police equipment turned in. The City of Shawnee Police Department (SPD) received information of criminal activity and took decisive action for the safety of our citizens. SPD immediately requested that the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office conduct a criminal investigation with the information received. SPD also opened an internal investigation secondary to the criminal investigation.

The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Investigators conducted an investigation. This investigation resulted in felony charges being filed and Blazer being arrested on February 1, 2024

Jacob Blazer was immediately terminated from his employment with the Shawnee Police Department. Blazer’s behavior was not in line with the integrity, professionalism, or code of ethics of the Shawnee Police Department.
