Now We Know Why Carrie Bradshaw’s Louboutins Were Mismatched

Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw, as famously played by Sarah Jessica Parker, is an iconic character whose bold fashion choices still feel relevant today. Whether its her newspaper-print dress designed by John Galliano while at Christian Dior from the collection, or her overall mastery of summer style, Bradshaw had a flamboyant way of dressing that today’s street style stars can’t help but try and replicate.

But delve into those memorable ensembles and there is one particular Carrie outfit from season three, episode 13, that remains a particularly hot topic. In the episode, Bradshaw click-clacks her way through Los Angeles in strappy Christian Louboutin sandals that were mismatched: a metallic red on her right, and a teal on her left. Years later, fans have debated whether the footwear lewk was intentional, or if it was a last-minute decision due to not being able to find the other shoe. (Given Bradshaw’s out-there styling jobs, the truth could veer towards either answer.)

But yesterday, Parker took to Instagram to clear up the shoe mystery: the actress confirmed it was a purposeful styling move, one she dared to wear with the help of the show’s prolific costume designer, Patricia Field. “We had 2 pairs of what I believe are @louboutinworld scrappy sandals,” the actress wrote in a comment on @everyoutfitonsatc's Instagram page, misspelling “strappy.” “Pat and I chose to do 1 of each. Perhaps because both were so delicious in color and seemed in harmony with the dress but also because we simply loved doing 1 of each.”

So there you have it, folks—the next time you’re torn between two beloved heels? Don’t discount putting one on each foot. It's Carrie approved.
