‘It’s now or never’: Kern County District 1 Supervisor candidate Mary Little talks upcoming election

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Mary Little, a candidate for Kern County’s first supervisorial seat, joined Kern County In Depth to talk more about the upcoming election.

Little is currently a Kern Board of Education Trustee, and says she has a passion to run.

“I believe in government of the people, for the people and by the people,” said Little. “I believe we’re at a precipice, and it’s now or never to make sure that our constitutional — our God-given constitutional rights — are for each and every one here in Kern County.”

Little said she believes God directed her path to shift from being a trustee to running for supervisor.

“I believe I have the leadership skills to [be supervisor],” said Little. “I believe that I want to get in front of the eight ball instead of behind, and be proactive in making sure that the needs are met in Kern County.”

Little, a resident of the first district, claimed there are needs within the district that have not been addressed, and said she feels she can address them. She also aspired to talk to her constituents on a daily basis by returning phone calls and emails, inviting residents to specific meetings and holding monthly community meetings.

“We don’t have the courts in outlying areas, we don’t have the jails in outlying areas, we don’t have the needed services that we need,” said Little. “There are a lot of issues I want to make sure we are taking into consideration.”

Among other issues, Little said she wants to make sure businesses are taken care of, and adequately address the controversial mandated trash tax from December 2023.
