The Shoe Gods

HEAVYWEIGHT CLASS: The Shoe Gods – buyer, seller and trader of classic and vintage athletic footwear – now offers clothing in the Augusta area for the rest of the body.

Shoe Gods has operated its downtown Augusta location at 134 Eighth St. Since late 2015, but Aug. 25 marked the introduction of Heavyweight Apparel, an adjoining space in the same storefront. Heavyweight offers vintage T-shirts, shorts, pants, jackets and other hard-to-find outerwear.

“Anything vintage, with a little bit of style,” said Shoe Gods’ Devante Frederick.

Other locations offer Heavyweight products, but the Augusta store is the first Shoe Gods location with on-hand inventory.

Shoe Gods also operates in Atlanta, Orangeburg, S.C., Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Fayetteville, N.C. Stores serving Columbia, S.C., and Charleston, S.C., have closed temporarily because of staffing shortages.

Precious Glimpse Ultrasound

PRECIOUS MEMORIES: A national chain of sonography clinics is planning to open in Augusta in September, the business announced recently over social media.

Precious Glimpse Ultrasound will be at 2476 Wrightsboro Road, Suite A, at its intersection with Monte Sano Avenue. The business uses ultrasound technology for expectant mothers to see their developing children in the womb.

The business offers differently-priced service packages ranging from a five-minute ultrasound session with two-dimensional, black-and-white photos, up to multiple sessions that capture 3D and 4D color images.

Precious Glimpse also operates locations in Colorado Springs, Colo., Baton Rouge, La., and Tucson, Ariz., among a handful of other larger cities.

Office Depot

NOW CLOSED: North Augusta's Office Depot, at 1117 Knox Ave. in Martintown Plaza, shut its doors Aug. 20 after liquidating as much inventory as it could, with some items slashed to 90% off the original price.

Office Depot vowed on May 2020 to save $850 million by closing some retail locations and cutting its workforce by about 13,100 employees by the end of 2023.

The South Florida Business Journal reported Wednesday that ODP Corp., Office Depot's parent company, has sold its headquarters building in Boca Raton, Fla.

The retailer's Augusta and Evans locations remain open.
