Fettuccine Alfredo freaks have something new to lose their sh*t over - and no, it's not another hack to lighten it up. The OG sauce recipe was created almost a century ago, and for the first time ever, the Italian chefs who started it all are jarring the stuff and selling it in the U.S.

The creamy, white sauce comes from a restaurant in Rome called Alfredo. Alfredo di Lelio opened it in 1914, and his namesake dish, Fettucine Alfredo, quickly became the most notable one on the menu - and not just with Italians. Old-school Hollywood royalty Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford gifted di Lelio golden utensils engraved with the words "To Alfredo the King of the Noodles" after tasting the pasta on their honeymoon. Decades later, John F. Kennedy joined Alfredo's fan club, when he dined at the restaurant in 1963. Also Alfredo lovers: Mickey Rooney, Jimmy Stewart, Bob Hope, and Bing Crosby.

Since then, Americans have tried to duplicate the flavor hundreds of times, often mistakenly adding heavy cream. While we still don't have the exact recipe, we've got the ingredient list on the back of the tub, and there are only four in the real sauce: parmigiana-reggiano, salted butter, olive oil, and cultured skim milk. Four 14-ounce tubs will set you back close to $70, but compared to a trip to Italy to try the original noodles, that's practically nothing.
