Yahoo Autos You Can Now Get the New X5 or X7 With a 523-HP V-8
If you were waiting on BMW to release a full-on M version of its new X5 or X7, sorry, but you're going to have to keep waiting. Can't wait any longer? Well, BMW has a new trim to hold you over: The X5 and X7 are now available with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine making 523 horsepower.
The X5 M50i and X7 M50i both use the powerplant found in the M850i, rated at 523 horsepower between 5500 and 6000 RPM, and 553 lb-ft of torque from 1800 to 4600 RPM. The X5 version scoots from 0 to 60 mph in a scant 4.1 seconds, while the X7 variant manages a time of 4.5 seconds. That is incredibly quick for SUVs this big. Remember, these aren't even the full-fledged M versions. Top speed is electronically limited to 130 mph with all-season tires, and 155 mph with summer performance tires.
In both vehicles, power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic and BMW's xDrive. Also included is a specially developed electronically controlled M sports rear differential, which uses the vehicle's stability control sensors to distribute torque to each wheel as needed, mitigating wheel-spin in low-grip situations. Adaptive M dampers are standard on both cars. The X7 also gets an adaptive air suspension included-it's optional on the X5.
The X5 M50i gets 20-inch wheels as standard, with 21- and 22-inch wheels available as extra-cost options. The X7 M50i gets 22s standard, but 21-inch wheels can be optioned if you're not into massive rims.
Pricing for the X5 M50i starts at $82,150, while the X& M50i starts at $99,600. These prices do not include a destination fee of $995. Production at BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina plant is set to begin in August 2019.
