NRL's Raiders sign Super League player George Williams

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — The National Rugby League's Canberra Raiders have signed Super League five-eighth George Williams to a three-year contract beginning in 2020.

Williams joins fellow English internationals Josh Hodgson, John Bateman and Elliott Whitehead on Canberra's roster for next season.

The 24-year-old Williams has played 172 games and won two championships with Wigan in 2016 and 2018 with Bateman as a teammate.

Williams has also played 10 tests for England.

Raiders chief Don Furner said Tuesday: "The club's had success in recent times in recruiting proven performers from the Super League and we believe George will fit into our system like others have."

Williams has 11 tries and 14 try assists for fourth-place Wigan so far this Super League season.
