NSFW pic of Giants’ Schmitt goes viral amid criticism of new MLB uniforms

(KRON) — Major League Baseball rolled out new uniforms for the 2024 season designed by Nike and manufactured by Fanatics. The uniforms have been met with no shortage of criticism, which only ramped up on Thursday after a picture of Giants infielder Casey Schmitt went viral.

At first look, the new MLB jerseys were ridiculed for having smaller font and looking “cheaper.” Once players showed up for spring training, fans noticed a new issue. The pants are see-through.

On Wednesday, a photo of Schmitt at Giants’ media day made the rounds on social media. KRON4 will not provide a link to the picture due to its NSFW nature, but let’s just say the pants don’t leave much up to imagination.

According to Sports Illustrated, Giants beat reporter Alex Pavlovic posted the picture on his Instagram story and later deleted it.

The see-through pants can be seen in the photo of Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani below.

The reaction from MLB players to the new jerseys, which were intended to provide for better on-field performance, has been mixed. But some high-profile stars have been vocal with their criticism.

“I know everyone hates them,” Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner said. “We all liked what we had. We understand business, but I think everyone wanted to keep it the same way, for the most part, with some tweaks here or there.”

MLB officials have said the uniforms provide players with better mobility, with material that offers 25% more stretch and dries 28% faster than the previous uniforms.

KRON4 reached out to Nike, Fanatics and the Giants about the see-through pants. See the statement below from MLB.
