The National Television Awards will welcome a new host for its 2021 ceremony.

The 2021 NTAs were postponed last year, with the awards ceremony moving its original January date first to April, and later to September. Now, after a 17-month wait the NTAs will finally return on Thursday, September 9.

In a change from previous years, the show will no longer be fronted by comedian David Walliams. Instead, The Masked Singer's Joel Dommett will lead proceedings live from The O2 in London.

"It's a huge honour to be hosting the NTAs this year! It still feels like someone has made a wonderful error," Joel joked. "I really, really love TV and can't wait to celebrate the best stuff from what's been a very weird year or so.

"I'm also really hoping The Masked Singer wins something so I can present an award to myself. That's a creative narcissist's DREAM!"

Ahead of the 2021 NTAs, the awards' executive producer Kim Turberville promised fans that the show will be back to its best following the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

"We are so excited to be back to celebrate a remarkable TV year like no other," Turberville said. "There is a wealth of great television to recognise and we are delighted to have Joel at the helm.

"With his wit and natural charisma, he'll definitely be bringing a fresh approach to this year's awards."

Although the NTAs will be back with a new host, its unique format will remain the same, with every winner chosen exclusively by the telly-watching British public via a nationwide poll.

Voting for this year's longlist will begin next week, where fans will be able to start voting for their favourites at nationaltvawards.com from Tuesday, May 25.
