Nueces County officials arrest 19-year-old suspect in Banquete shooting

A 19-year-old man is in custody after a shooting in Banquete that killed one last week.

Early Thursday morning, Nueces County officials responded to a call at a residence on Gladys Street, near Banquete ISD schools, for a shooting.

The man who was shot, 21-year-old Jorge Berzosa Salto, was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries, Chief Deputy David Cook said.

Officials believe the suspect attempted to knock down the door and his former girlfriend answered. The suspect then went to the bedroom and fired a gun several times.

With assistance from the U.S. Marshals, officials identified the suspect and located him using his ankle monitor. He was found at a residence south of Robstown and was taken into custody.

Xavier Jordan Zavala, 19, was booked into the Nueces County Jail on Thursday. He's charged with murder and remained in custody Monday afternoon.
