Hit with shell while busy with household: 13-year-old boy from Kherson Oblast operated on in Kyiv

A 13-year-old boy from the Kherson Oblast, who received a shrapnel wound, has undergone a surgery in Kyiv.

13-year-old Ivan was injured during another Russian shelling of Kherson Oblast, reports National Children's specialised hospital Ohmatdyt.

The boy was out doing the housework, and then he heard shots and a crash as Russian shells hit a neighbouring house, the fragments of which wounded him.

On 9 March, Ivan was taken to the Kherson hospital, where he received medical treatment, but getting the shrapnel from his upper arm was impossible at the time.

A few days later, the boy was sent to the Ohmatdyt, where he was treated in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology.

"Due to military operations, Ivan received a mine-explosive injury to his left upper arm. In Ohmatdyt, he was examined by a paediatrician, surgeon, and traumatologist, and clinically examined.

We also performed a computed tomography scan, after which he was hospitalised in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology for further treatment. In our hospital, Ivan underwent a successful operation; a fragment was removed from the area of his left shoulder blade",  said orthopaedic traumatologist Mykola Dolianytskyi.

Doctors found out that Ivan does not like online games, but loves gardening, grows various trees, bakes cookies, and helps his parents take care of animals and birds.

Ivan's family has many animals: cows, goby, ducks, chickens, dogs and cats.

"Ivan's mother, without hiding her tears, says that during one of the attacks, some animals died, which greatly traumatised and upset Ivan.

The boy loves and cares very much about nature, animals and birds. And it hurts beyond any expression to watch how Russia destroys all life around," they say in Ohmatdyt.

Ivan's house was partially destroyed, and some pets were killed. The family is looking for evacuation options.

Russian shells repeatedly hit Ivan's yard, so the house was partially destroyed, with no doors or windows in it.

Now the family lives in their neighbour's house, which was not so damaged, but due to regular shelling and constant danger, the family is forced to seek shelter in another village.

Now Ivan's family is looking for options for evacuation from the danger zone along with all the animals.

Note: Earlier, doctors of Ohmatdyt saved the limb of 14-year-old Artem from Kherson, who was wounded during the shelling as he was on his way to the shelter.
