ROCKFORD — Boylan may have edged Auburn on the scoreboard, but the Titans pounded Auburn on the boards in Wednesday’s 67-61 NIC-10 boys basketball victory.

“We let those guys get to the rim with ease,” Auburn coach Bryan Ott said. “We didn’t box out so they got put-back attempt after put-back attempt.”

Boylan (5-2, 3-0 NIC-10) got 17 points from Aedan Campos, 13 from Santana English and 10 from Darrell Johnson. Boylan had a 41-21 rebounding edge.

“I am very proud of that number,” Boylan coach Brett McAllister said. “That’s pursuit of the ball and want-to. Just because we are not oversized, it doesn’t mean we can’t be a great rebounding team. It’s all about pursuit and they really went after the ball in the fourth quarter.”

Adrian Agee scored 17 points and Rakim Chaney 17 to lead guard-dominated Auburn (4-4, 2-1), which trailed the whole way, including 53-40 after three quarters. Boylan stopped any comeback attempt by grabbing nine offensive rebounds in the fourth quarter alone.

“We knew that was a big part we had to play,” said J’Mar Johnson, who added eight points and 11 rebounds, including seven offensive boards. “They are playing small, so we have to win the boards to keep up with them.”

Mark Harris had seven assists for Boylan.
