1987: When Ohio State last lost to Indiana in Columbus

Ohio State's last loss to Indiana in Ohio Stadium came 35 years ago.

In coach Earle Bruce's final season as Ohio State's football coach, the unranked Hoosiers beat the No. 9 Buckeyes 31-10 in Columbus for the first of four losses in 1987 including home losses to No. 20 Michigan State and Iowa, along with a road loss to Wisconsin.

Tied at 10-10 at halftime, Indiana outscored Ohio State 21-0 in the second half, limiting the Buckeyes to 13 first downs and 264 yards on 51 plays. The Hoosiers took advantage of three turnovers, including two interceptions by quarterback and punter Tom Tupa.

"I've known about Ohio State football since I was a freshman here in 1949," Bruce said after the game. "This is the darkest day in Ohio State football since I have been associated with it."

5: Ohio State wins decided by less than 10 points since Indiana's last victory in 1988

While the Hoosiers came away with a dominant 41-7 win in Bloomington in 1988, Indiana has not found that level of success again against Ohio State.

Ohio State has won 27 of the past 28 meetings with Indiana, recording a 27-27 tie against the Hoosiers in 1990. During that win streak, only five games have been decided by less than 10 points, including, most recently, a 42-35 Buckeye win in Columbus during the 2020 season.

1: Big Ten win for Indiana since the start of the 2021 season

After a stretch from 2019-20 where Indiana posted a record of 14-7, earning trips to the Gator Bowl and Outback Bowl, the Hoosiers have struggled mightily.

Since 2021, Indiana has won one game against a Big Ten opponent, losing every conference game in 2021 before beating Illinois in the 2022 season opener. Since the win against the Fighting Illini, the Hoosiers have losses to Nebraska, Michigan, Maryland, Rutgers and Penn State.

Shaun Shivers, Josh Henderson and the rest of the Indiana run game has averaged 2.6 yards per carry, scoring 10 of the Hoosiers' 25 touchdowns this season.

Indiana will face an Ohio State defense that allows 105.9 yards per game and three yards per carry from opposing running backs.

5.5: Yards per pass attempt Indiana quarterbacks have averaged in 2022

Indiana's passing game has been one of the better units in the Big Ten through nine games. The Hoosiers have the fifth-best passing offense in the conference, averaging 250.3 yarrds per game.

Indiana will face an Ohio State pass defense that has allowed 165.9 passing yards per game: third-best behind Illinois and Minnesota.

574.2: Yards Ohio State's offense has averaged vs. Indiana since Tom Allen took over in 2017

Joining Indiana's coaching staff as its defensive coordinator under head coach Kevin Wilson, Tom Allen took over as the Hoosiers' head coach in 2017.

In his five full seasons as head coach, Allen's defense has struggled to solve Ohio State, allowing an average 574.2 yards and 49 points in each of the Hoosiers five losses to the Buckeyes.

Indiana has not allowed less than 42 points in each of Allen's matchups with Ohio State.
