By the numbers: A look at the 2022 CSU football season's best, worst stats

The 2022 college football season is a wrap in Fort Collins.

Jay Norvell's first season in charge ended with a 17-0 shutout of New Mexico.

It was a bright finish to another bowl-less season for the Colorado State football team. The page quickly turns to 2023 with recruiting now in full gear.

Before the chapter turns, here's a look, by the numbers, at some of the best and worst stats for CSU's 2022.

CSU's win total, an annoyingly familiar number to fans. CSU has finished with three wins in three of the last four full seasons (discounting the four-game 2020 COVID season). CSU has finished 3-9 seven times since 2007.

CSU's average home attendance on the season. It ranked fifth in the Mountain West and 11th among Group of 5 programs. Only two G5's above CSU in attendance had losing records. A crowd of 35,009 against Utah State was the largest of the season.

Quarterback Clay Millen's completion percentage. It's first in FBS and best-ever in the division for a freshman. It's also a CSU single-season record.

Number of times CSU quarterbacks were sacked. It was by far most in FBS, nine more than Akron.

Tory Horton's receiving yards, good for eighth in CSU history for a single season. His 71 catches is 10th in a season at CSU.

Rushing yards for Avery Morrow. The most rushing yards for a CSU back since Dalyn Dawkins in 2017.

Number of tackles for senior linebacker Dequan Jackson, his first season hitting the century mark. He finishes his career with 322 tackles.

Total interceptions for CSU safeties. Jack Howell and Ayden Hector had three each, and Henry Blackburn had one. Howell also led the team in tackles with 108.

The number of scholarship players coach Jay Norvell said the team ended the season with. The FBS maximum is 85. Norvell says CSU will sign around 40 players in December.
