Numerous events celebrate Juneteenth across Maryland

Sunday marks just the second year Juneteenth is recognized as a federal holiday, and the weekend was packed full of events to celebrate. From intimate community walks to big parades and concerts, Marylanders said the different celebrations all center around one word: freedom. Marylanders spent the weekend coming together to celebrate a historical milestone. Drummers and dancers filled the streets of Annapolis for a parade. The University of Maryland Medical Center hosted a block party, and in north Baltimore, church members held a community walk. Gov. Larry Hogan issued a proclamation recognizing Juneteenth Day and how far the nation has come.
