NWA army veteran becomes the recipient of custom-made home

PEA RIDGE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Pea Ridge community comes together as a nonprofit organization, “Homes For Our Troops,” is donating a custom-made home in Pea Ridge for army veteran Sergeant Andrew Butterworth and his family.

Since 2004, the organization has built over 371 homes nationally for veterans who have sustained injuries such as paralysis, traumatic brain injuries, and limb amputations.

Army Sgt. Butterworth lost his right leg in 2004 while on patrol in Iraq when two rockets propelled grenades struck his vehicle. Sgt. Butterworth and his wife Julia have prosthetics and face challenges as they raise their three children.

Both say they struggle with getting through doors, maneuvering around the kitchen or sometimes getting outside to play with their children. That’s why he says he couldn’t be more grateful for what’s in store.

“I just can’t thank everybody for being here. I can’t thank our troops enough and everybody else. I’m not always at a loss for words, but I get there every once in a while, thank you again,” said Sgt. Butterworth.

Army Sgt. Butterworth said he hopes the new home will bring more opportunities for his non-profit, allow him to get more involved with the Pea Ridge community, and create more space for his family to play outdoors.

Congressman Steve Womack and Pea Ridge Mayor Nathan See gave the family well wishes as they started their new journey. The family says they believe their new home will be finished in August 2024.
